Curriculum
Our schools all have bullying prevention activities built in through out the K-5 school's curriculum. All of South Brunswick elementary schools have lessons to specifically address bullying, cyber bullying, harassment, conflict resolution, problem solving, teasing vs. bullying, etc. A more specific outline of the curriculum is available on the counseling curriculum page. Responsive Classroom All of South Brunswick teachers are trained in the Responsive Classroom approach to teaching and classroom management. Responsive classroom focuses on personal responsibility, classroom culture, clearly outlined expectations and logical consequences for failure to meet those expectations. This approach has been proven to reduce conflicts both in and out of the classroom. Behavioral expectations of students All South Brunswick students are presented with appropriate behavioral expectations. Students are given both a Behavioral Expectations agreement and an Acceptable Use Agreement (electronics) to read, discuss and to sign. Logical consequences will be given to address behaviors deemed inappropriate. Harassment, Intimidation or Bullying (HIB) Interventions In the event that a child does exhibit behavior that may be deemed Harassment, Intimidation or Bullying (HIB), the Principal will be notified, parents will be contacted, and an investigation could be conducted. As the Anti-bullying Specialist, I will conduct the investigation and report the results to the Principal. Appropriate interventions, remedial measures and consequences will be determined within 10 school days. If you would like additional information on this process, or feel your child has been a target of HIB, please contact me and/or Mrs. Hernandez as soon as possible. Susan.Dailey@sbschools.org |
